I've decided on a pet style for the game! These take some time to develop so currently I only have (2) type concepts completed both are female.
Concept Art
My initial design concepts have separate layers for hair,eyes,base colors, accent colors all of these will be customizeable. They will be cellshaded with minial highlighting. The differences between male and female will strictly be in the eyes and the direction they face. Males will be left facing and femals will be right facing. As this is a solo project I don't currently have a lot of time to dedicate to complete redesigns between pet sexes.
Breeds
Different breeds will have distinct physical characteristics. This will provide the basis for designing your pet. Along with physical differences pony breeds will also have an Affinity: (Earth, Fire, Water, Air) What does affinity do? I'm not sure yet but probably something later :)
Coloring Options
Currently each pony will have the following color options:
- Eye Color
- Coat Color
- Hair Color I
- Hair Color II
- Accent Color I
- Accent Color II
Pony Markings
Marking Potions: These potions could be something you can craft, earn, or find. But you won't necessarily get the color your after to encourage trade between players.- Random Marking Item: I think it'd be fun to have a item that adds a random marking to your pony. For this item I think it will have a similar chance mechanic for getting the color you want. However, for this item I think it would be cool to have the color chance align with rarity. For example the rarest form of this item you can pick the exact color and the most common you have a less likely chance of getting the exact color you'd like.
- Starter Ponies: Start ponies will be ponies you can generate without any parents. In a breeding game it's always important to have new genes in the pool. Starter ponies will be generated with a certain number of crystal hearts the bonus site currency.
